Real words, real people. Why video testimonials work

We’ll start with a big thank you to Dan Minett of Five Horizons, for taking the time to talk about his experience working with PLOTT. It means a lot to us. Not just because it’s always good to hear we’re doing something right, but because testimonials like this are powerful tools.

This video isn’t overly produced or too slick. It isn’t scripted. And that’s precisely why it works. Real words, from a real client, in their own voice. That’s what resonates. Especially in a sector like financial services, where trust and authenticity matter.

Dan’s also exactly the kind of client we love working with. Not just because he’s in our financial services niche, but because he’s forward-thinking, decisive, and genuinely passionate about what he’s building. And if you’re watching from the same world he operates in, he’ll feel familiar. That’s the power of using video — people relate to people like them.

“They always seem very enthusiastic about what I’m trying to do… if they say ‘we like that’, it reinforces your conviction in what you’re doing.”

Dan Minett, 5 Horizons

Add a little music

Dan told us the name Five Horizons came from a Pearl Jam track, and that made our ears prick-up, so to speak. That musical inspiration gave the brand a tone (pun intended). It’s confident, contemporary, and just a little unexpected. We all — Dan and PLOTT — wanted to lean into it. From visual style to copy tone, we built something modern and agile, but with its own rhythm and soul.

Here’s what we delivered for Dan, and Five Horizons:

Brand identity — from name to logo, tone of voice and visual language, all rooted in Dan’s vision and values (and yes, inspired by Pearl Jam).

Website — Fast and modern looking site, built to speak to both private clients and professional advisers. If you’ve got a minute, you can explore the Five Horizons website.

Brochures — two sales decks tailored to Five Horizons’ key audiences.

Design and user-experience (UX) — everything crafted to reinforce the key brand values: nimble, clear, and modern, without losing the human connection.

Point and shoot

We highly recommend asking clients to reflect on their experience of working with us. And if possible, point a camera at them while they do it. Because however clever the copy, however cool the design, nothing builds trust like someone saying, “This worked for me.”

“Because your brand isn’t what you say it is — it’s what other people say it is.”
