AdviserTech Unplugged: Monthly Podcast for Financial Advisers

After doing my first webinar a few weeks ago, I was asked back to be a guest on a new podcast, AdviserTech Unplugged. Launched by the moneyinfo team it’s been created to help address the challenges faced by 21st-century financial advisers and wealth managers.

The first series was focussing on ‘women in finance’. I was obviously delighted to be asked, alongside many other inspirational female leaders who I admire in the finance space. I had received such great feedback from the webinar, I knew the podcast was a good chance to delve a bit deeper into my favourite subject.

The importance of branding within the financial sector to build a sustainable business.

I found the pre-recorded webinar experience very stressful. Far more so than presenting live. I massively underestimated how pre-recording is far more nerve-wracking! You can read all about my webinar nerves in my previous post or you watch it below.

If I’d not been in branding, I would’ve been a financial adviser

I felt far less self-conscious doing a podcast and I really enjoyed the more free-flowing conversational format. It was only very basically scripted, in the sense I had visibility of the questions the day before. It was a great chance to talk far more openly about how we help clients build their brands and support them to grow their businesses.

It was also a great chance to chat about why we started PLOTT and the personal passion I have for working with financial advisers and wealth planners. I very much believe if I’d not been in branding, I would’ve been a financial adviser. I love hearing stories and delving into what matters to people. I work with business owners to find out what matters to them and then create a strategy to help them grow their businesses. Advisers do this from personal level building a financial plan to help their money grow. Either way, you’re listening and understanding what makes people tick and how you can help them.

Webinar vs Podcast

The webinar was heavily scripted – it had to be for a ten-minute presentation. And although it was very polished, I found it lost some of my personality. Whereas the podcast was a real opportunity to get my personality across and connect with my listeners on a far more personal level.

Although both the webinar and podcast experiences were daunting – they really complimented each other and hopefully help position myself and PLOTT as experts in the branding and finance sector.

If anyone reading this ever gets asked to do one – all I can say is go for it!
